HELLENIC SEAWAYS: Δώρο το εισιτήριο της επιστροφής. Με προσάραξη στα βράχια και όχι σε λιμάνι !!! Τα τεράστια οικονομικά προβλήματα της εταιρίας, όπως έχει αποκαλύψει το lobbystas, είναι η αιτία της δυσλειτουργίας της εταιρίας, με κίνδυνο την ασφάλεια των επιβατών; Πως αλλιώς εξηγείται ότι δύο ολόκληρα μίλια πριν από το λιμάνι της Τήνου, το Flying Cat 4 προσάραξε στα αβαθή, όταν τα ηλεκτρονικά συστήματα πλοήγησης του «ούρλιαζαν» ότι πάμε καβάλα για τα βράχια;

“Never on time!!!!!!!!”

If you go with Hellenic or “go to hell seaways…!” Even you take a high speed boat you should count in at least one to 1½ hours on delay. This was a trip form Paros to Rafina… we more than close to miss our plane home.

“1 hour delay”

We tolk tre ferry from Santorini to Heraklion. First all the passengers were stoved into a small building, where we would wait for the ferry. We received no information on the delay and had to wait in the crowded room for an hour. When we finally got on the ferry, they didn’t do anything to catch up with the delay and we still didn’t get any information on when we would arrive.

“Ferries are fast and comfy, but the staff from the booking office to on board need some manners!!”

I have to say the trip from Piraeus to Poros was very smooth, and I really didn’t feel the journey!! However, booking and getting onboard was not smooth!! The ticket office staff on both ends are rude, unhelpful, they almost make you feel like you are inconveniencing them by buying tickets!! having paid for the tickets they were just flung at me and the staff member moved on!! We were unlucky to be on Poros at a time that the port staff were threatening to strike, the ticket office staff were very unhelpful when trying to find out information on this, so to play it safe we left Poros a day earlier than planned!! I asked where to go to get on the boat and was just given a gate number!! Only to discover that when you go through that gate there are any numbers of boats pulling in along the way, having been given nothing more than the number, I then had to ask staff along the quays where exactly to find the boat I needed, thankfully they were much more helpful. Then the mad dash down to the end of the pier to where the boat I needed actually was. There is a super quick turnaround on these so do not be late!! Once on the boat you then have to struggle to find somewhere safe to put your luggage, all the while the staff (who expect you to store it safely) are shouting at you to take your seat!! On the way to Poros we were lucky to have a staff member who took our luggage for us and stored it safely, on the way back it was a disaster!! Cost is approx. €100 return for 2 to Poros.

“Never use Hellenic Seaways”

I bought a return trip for my wife and myself on the Flying Dolphin from Piraeus to Aegina on 27 Dec 2014 planning to return that afternoon and was told by the agent in the Hellenic Seaways booth at Piraeus that the last trip back left Aegina at 4pm.

No problems getting to Aegina but when we returned at 3.30pm to the dock at Aegina the ferry had not arrived. When it got to 4pm I went to the Flying Dophin booth and asked the lady there when the ferry would arrive. I was told it was cancelled due to “technical problems”. There was no notice to this effect at the booth. You had to ask!

I asked for a refund of half my return ticket so that I could buy a ticket from one of the other companies. She refused and when I said my hotel was in Athens, what did she expect me to do, she replied, take the ferry in the morning or buy a ticket from the other ferry companies. I was outraged, she was surly, tried to ignore me but would do nothing.

Another Greek lady standing nearby overheard the ruckus and came over to see if she could help. She spoke perfect english and after I had explained the situation she spoke to the lady in the booth in Greek but to my astonishment with no success. She said I should go to the Police and gave me directions.

The police were helpful and after making a phone call told me the same company Hellenic Seaways that ran the Flying Dolphin also had a car ferry leaving at 6.30pm. They told me to go back to the Hellenic Seaways booth and ask thenm to change the ticket to the 6.30 ferry.

Back at the booth the lady still would not change the ticket. I went to the Hellenic Seaways car ferry booth at the other end of the line of booths and the male agent there was just as surly and wouldn’t say anything, just pointed back to the original booth.

Back to the lady and still refusal, so I pulled out the paper the police had given me with their phone number on which they had advised me to call if I had further problems. I asked her if I needed to call the police and ask them to come to the booth. That seemed to do the trick because she now agreed to exchange the ticket for the car ferry.

There were about a dozen other passengers for the Flying Dolphin who had been waiting on the dock where it loaded about 100 yards away. They started to come up to the booth just as I was ending my encounter, they had assumed the ferry was late and were just waiting. When they heard the situation from the lady they requested refunds. She started refusing them, at which point I explained to them that I had had to go to the police and that if she did not cooperate they should do the same. The threat of getting the police had the desired effect and the other passengers then got refunds sufficient for the car ferry. The Dolphin was 12 euro and the car ferry 9.5 euro. They were refunded 9.50 euro.

The “technical problems” with the Flying Dolphin was most likely a lack of passengers. There were less than 20 of us who had to transfer to the car ferry and the weather was perfect.

I don’t have a problem with them cancelling a ferry. I do have a huge problem with their complete lack of concern as to how the passengers should get to their destinations. Furthermore they seemed more interested in effectively stealing your money and forcing you to buy new tickets for another ferry. I would hate to think that this was a deliberate ploy on the part of the ferry operators but after this experience I think it is highly likely.

Apart from this incident I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Greece but I would advise any tourist there to be very wary. This country depends greatly on tourists and mostly they understand that good customer service will bring more tourists. However there are exceptions like Hellenic Seaways.

Τα συστήματα πλοήγησης του συγκεκριμένου σκάφους διαθέτουν σύστημα προειδοποιήσεις ότι πάει στα βράχια ναι η όχι κύριοι;

Τα ραντάρ του έδειχναν ότι έπιασε λιμάνι;

Τι συνέβη και το Flying Cat 4 Hellenic Seaways καβάλησε τα βράχια;

Συνεχίζεται…
